Cats and their sleep

Studies show that the average cat will sleep between 13 and 18 hours a day. Newborns and old cats sleep longer hours while the healthy adults cats sleeping fewer hours.

Animal experts believe that cats sleep a lot because they rarely sleep deeply. How are they going to sleep when the owner keeps on massaging their cat :). Actually, it is because wild cats have a lot of enemies so they are used to getting their sleep with one eye open. Imagine that. To make up for their vigilance, they need long sleeps to restore their energy.

Cats are nocturnal by nature. However, that doesn't make cat - EVIL. Cats are especially active just before dawn because this is te best time of night to find rats, mice, birds and other interesting game. Again, cats and rats together is a big NO.

If you have a house cat, it's best to get a cat flap, so that they can come and go as they please and you don't need to be a door keeper. There are some cat flap that can only be opened by a cat wearing a collar that emits an electronic signal. This will keep other cats from entering.

There you go, if you ever wonder why they sleep so long. Have fun with your pet.
