Cat Myths

Malaysians cats are born with straight tails but people deliberately break them when they are kittens so they grow up with bendy tails

ha..ha, of course it's false. Curly, short and other funny looking tails are the result of genetic heritage. Purebred Manx cats, American Ringtails and Japanese Bobtails all have short or hooked tails.

The original wild Siamese and Thai cats from that region inherit genes that cause kinky peculiar looking tails too. Modern breeders have opted to breed out the characteristics but the wild varieties still sports their original charming curves and hooks :)

It's entirely up to you, whether you prefer a cat with short tails, long tails, bended or straight :), but don't worry, if your kitten have straight tails, it will grow up wit a straight tail.

Siamese Cat

As the name suggest, are the Siamese Cats from Siam (Thailand)? I don't know, but I read about that this cat was once the breed of choice for the royalty of Thailand. Most probably that is how it got it name and that will make them the king of the house :).

The Siamese normally has a small to medium size body and it has a very long, slender body type. It has a wedge-shaped head with big ears. Mostly light colored and with bright blue eyes, anyone will fall in love with the Siamese Cats easily. One thing for sure, Siamese Cat is one of the most exotic breeds. If you are thinking of getting one, be prepared for you jealous neighbors. They might steal it fro you :P ha .. ha

I wrote about the Maine Coon Cat before and how I lost Jake and Hunter, but so far I have not get one yet. Should I go for the Siamese Cat? What about other cat breeds? Losing one is difficult, but thinking to get another is harder when the thought of losing it again kept popping. Maybe I just need to stick to my neighbor's cat when he drops by.

As I said before, if you are thinking to adopt a cat, get one that are very young age. That is between the age of six to eight weeks so that you don't need to feed your Siamese kitten with your own tits. I think a Siamese Cat is a good choice and very easy to maintain. Due to its short hair, it requires little grooming.

White Tigers: The Cruelty Behind the Magic

White tiger is not a sub-species of tiger. It's actually a genetic defect.

In this special edition of Species Spotlight we look at the VERY popular white tiger (which isn't a separate species of tiger.) White tigers in captivity are produced from inbreeding and they actually weaken the captive tiger gene pool and they do nothing to help real conservation of the tiger. We state the first white was found in the 1950's as reports earlier to this may or may not have taken place in India.

*Please urge anyone you see exhibiting white tigers to get them spayed or neutered as we CAN stop this abuse in our generation. Since they bring in $$$, many places breed them, and this has to be stopped in order to put the emphasis back into the real tiger species and into conservation and welfare over simple entertainment.

Should I Get A Maine Coon Cat?

I need to find a place that have kittens for sale. I need to get a new cat.

If you noticed, I never post anything about my own cat. Not that I don't want to, but they are not with me anymore. I have 2 cats. I can't remember the exact breed as the parents are mixed. Anyway, one is a black and white (Jake), and the other one in orange (Hunter).

None of them are with me now. Jake was hit by a car while casing another cat while Hunter was bitten to death by stray dogs (one of the reason why I hate dogs). Between those two, Hunter was my best friend. He would follow anywhere I go. While I was playing tennis and, even when he has his own bed, he would always be on mine (on my legs) in the morning. I missed that warmth feeling.

One of the reason I have this blog is to write about cats, get familiarized with the topic and also to consider getting another cat. I was considering maine coon cats, but I am not sure I can get one near my place.

Maine Coon Cat is one of the oldest breeds of cats. They can be found everywhere in the world as they can withstand warm and even cold climates. I thing I like about them is their good-natured personality. This will make them safe with kids, but in general, most cats are kids friendly. Trust me on this.
